The Kentucky Wildcats’ 95-64 win over LSU was extra special for walk-on Zach Tow.
Tow, a junior from Madisonville, joined the team during walk-on tryouts before the season started. He beat out dozens of other potential walk-ons for a spot on the team and earned the right to come to practice on a one-day contract, which he continued to earn every single day to keep getting one-day contracts throughout the season, according to Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope.
Tow had not appeared in a game all season until entering Tuesday’s game with 0.2 seconds on the clock.
For most of the season, Tow didn’t even have a jersey. However, that changed as Lamont Butler presented Tow with a jersey before tonight’s game so he could suit up.
Mark Pope says Zach Tow had not had a jersey all year and tonight Lamont Butler presented him with one.

Wearing #20 for the Wildcats, Tow was able to walk on the floor at Rupp Arena to finish out the game.
Coach Mark Pope spoke about Tow during his postgame press conference and mentioned how Kentucky is special for the way fans will embrace a player the second he puts on a jersey and gets on the floor.
Here’s what Pope had to say after the game.
