MURCIA-BORN Carlos Alcaraz produced a sensational victory over Novak Djokovic to win his second consecutive Wimbledon title.
And England fans are hoping that this proves to be Spain’s only triumph today.
Alcaraz, a keen football fan, will be watching tonight’s Euro 2024 final between his nation and the Three Lions keenly – having “done his job”.
Speculating ahead of tonight’s final in Berlin, some fans feel that they have found an omen.
Pessimistic England supporters reckon that a Spanish Wimbledon men’s singles champion could be a bad sign for their side.
Rafael Nadal won two titles in SW19 during his illustrious career – in 2008 and 2010.
On both occasions, La Roja won major tournaments – triumphing at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup.
More optimistic fans, however, have pointed to 2021.
On that occasion, Italian Matteo Berrettini lost to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon men’s singles final – but his country went on to beat England in the Euro 2020 final.
Fans will hope that this year, with a Spaniard having beaten Djokovic in the final, the result in the football will go the other way – with England winning.

One Three Lions fan wrote on social media: “That Alcaraz win the only thing Spain getting today.”
While a second claimed: “Safe to say Spain has won what they deserve today with the Carlos Alcaraz victory. It is definitely coming home.”

England fans looking for more positive omens can look back at the Three Lions’ World Cup triumph in 1966.
Ahead of Sir Alf Ramsey’s men claiming glory at Wembley, Labour won a General Election, with Harold Wilson becoming Prime Minister.
In another parallel to this year, a Spaniard won Wimbledon – with the late, great Manolo Santana triumphing in SW19.
After his 6-2 6-2 7-6 win over Djokovic, Alcaraz was asked about tonight’s football by Annabel Croft.
Amid a chorus of pantomime boos, the 21-year-old said: “I’ll watch with my team for, sure, I don’t know where but I will be watching.
“I’ve already done my job so let’s see about the football.
“It will be a really difficult match, I’ll watch and let’s see who wins the Euros.”
