The Mavericks and Clippers have a budding rivalry that dates back to the 2020 and 2021 NBA Playoffs. Those series ended with Los Angeles eliminating Dallas from the Western Conference bracket.
This time around, the Clippers are suffering from a bit of bad injury luck, as Kawhi Leonard and James Harden enter the playoffs with lingering knee and foot injuries, respectively. That being said, Los Angeles still has Paul George, Norman Powell, Russell Westbrook and Ivica Zubac ready to contribute.
The Mavericks have plenty of momentum after winning 12 of their final 15 regular season games. Dallas will be leaning on MVP candidate Luka Doncic, who averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists and 9.2 rebounds in 70 games, as well as eight-time All-Star Kyrie Irving.
If Leonard and Harden aren’t limited by their injuries, it’s possible that the Clippers could escape with their third first-round series win against the Mavs. The key will be containing the two-headed monster of Doncic and Irving.
