A billionaire US Open competitor who is worth more than Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal banked another £84,000 with her latest win at Flushing Meadows.
Emma Navarro is far from a household name in the tennis world, but because she is the daughter of investment tech tycoon Ben Navarro, the 23-year-old has an astonishing 10-figure net worth.
Ben Navarro is perhaps best known for being the founder and owner of Sherman Financial Group, which owns Credit One Bank.
The billionaire businessman has also made ventures into the sporting world, including buying Charleston Tennis LLC through his Beemok Sports company six years ago.
In fact, the Navarro family is dripping in sporting history, with Emma’s grandfather, Frank Navarro, a former American football player and coach.
As a result, the family have accumulated a hefty bank balance, with Emma’s own net worth estimated to be over £2.3billion.
It doesn’t make prize money she earns on court any less useful though, as the world No.12 battles to maintain her spot and move up the rankings.
Her efforts will be boosted with a strong US Open campaign and with three wins at Flushing Meadows so far, Navarro has been one of the standout players.
Navarro’s latest victory came against Marta Kostyuk, who she despatched 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the Louis Armstrong Stadium to book a spot in her first-ever US Open last-16 appearance.
Her reward? A cool £247,000 ($325,000), as well as a last-16 meeting against reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff.
Gauff has been in imperious form throughout the tournament, with the 20-year-old having dropped just one set so far.
Following her third-round win against Elina Svitolina, the home-crowd favourite said: “This win means a lot. I knew today was going to be a tough match. Every time I play Elina, she’s a fighter. I knew I had to bring my best tennis.
“I feel like that match at Wimbledon I think I mentally just literally collapsed on the court. I was very frustrated, and she played well. I have to expect her to play her best tennis, and I just need to know that I need to bring it and mentally be there from the beginning to the end.”
The winner of the all-American tie will take on either Wang Yafan or world No.26 Paula Badosa in the quarter-finals.
