A stunning stretch of coastline has repeatedly been named the UK’s “best beach” thanks to its “mini-Caribbean” features.

With clear blue waters, golden sand and a backdrop of emerald-green hills, Rhossili Bay is a nugget of the Caribbean much closer to home than the popular holiday hotspot.

While this Welsh bay cannot boast the same temperatures, visitors can still enjoy a lovely day out as they walk along its fine beach.

Rhossili Bay lies within Britain’s first designated Area of Natural Beauty and its outstanding surroundings are confirmation of the deservedness of the designation.

This stunning slice of Swansea’s coastline was crowned one of the UK’s “most beautiful” beaches, narrowly missing out on the top spot to a Scottish rival.

Analysing Tripadvisor’s 30 most popular UK beaches, a team at Iglu Cruises earlier this year identified those with the highest percentage of ‘excellent’ reviews garnering a perfect five-star rating.

Rhossili Bay impressed with nearly 87% of reviews awarding it five stars, securing it second place.

Described as “a walker’s dream” with “three miles of golden sands”, visitors have praised the beach’s stunning views and rugged cliff fronts.

With its location, Rhossili Bay promises sweeping panoramic views atop grassy cliffs, overlooking the vast shoreline.

The beach is accessed via a steep path down the cliff, but the journey rewards with a magnificent expanse of sand.

The iconic Worms Head, one of the Gower Peninsula‘s most renowned landmarks, has been captivating visitors with its serpentine form.

Situated at the westernmost tip of the peninsula, its name is thought to originate from the Old English word ‘wurm’, meaning ‘dragon’ or ‘serpent’, likely inspired by its distinctive shape.

This mile-long stretch of land is divided into three parts: the Inner Head, Middle Head famed for the Devil’s Bridge sea cave ruins and the Outer Head.

One visitor, reflecting on a two-week stay, shared their impressions: “What a beautiful part of the country Gower is – everything from stunning beaches to woods/forests and moorland.”

“Friendly people, lovely food, stunning scenery. It is a lovely place to visit if you like walking, peace and space. They are very dog-friendly and my little puppy was welcomed practically everywhere.”
