Bristol Airport has suspended all flight operations due to heavy snowfall, causing significant disruption to travellers on Saturday evening.

Two flights have been cancelled and 18 delayed at Bristol Airport as the snowfall continues to disrupt services.

Flight tracking data shows at least nine flights have been diverted to alternative airports including Cardiff, Birmingham and Belfast.

The airport warned on its website that “snow fall at Bristol may result in some delays to flights” and advised passengers to contact their airlines directly.

An airport spokesman said: “The Bristol Airport team are working hard on snow clearing but challenging weather means that flight operations have been suspended until later tonight.”

The suspension comes amid deteriorating weather conditions that have forced multiple operational changes at the airport.

The disruption at Bristol Airport comes as two amber weather warnings take effect across large parts of the UK.

The Met Office has warned that up to 30cm of snow could fall in some areas, with a “good chance” that rural communities could be cut off.

One amber warning for snow and freezing rain covers most of Wales and central England, including the Midlands, from 6pm Saturday to midday Sunday.

The National Grid is working to restore power following multiple outages across the Midlands, South-West England and South Wales, affecting areas including Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff.

A second snow warning is in place for northern England, including Leeds, Sheffield and the Lake District, from 9pm Saturday until midnight Sunday.
