Further flight delays are expected across the UK today as the country experiences more heavy fog. It comes after around 20,000 people were affected by delays and cancellations caused by low visibility earlier this week.
Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester Airports have all reported delays to flights today.
A spokesperson for Gatwick Airport said:
“Temporary air traffic restrictions have been put in place due to fog causing poor visibility. Some flights may be delayed throughout the day.”
Regarding the delays, National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said:
“As widespread fog continues to affect some UK airports today, temporary air traffic restrictions remain in place at locations with low visibility. Restrictions of this sort are only ever applied to maintain safety… Our teams are working closely with the airports and airlines to minimise disruption.”
Passengers due to fly today are urged to check the status of their flight before travelling.
The low cloud, mist and fog have been trapped in place by a slow-moving area of high pressure however, in welcome news for travellers, clearer conditions are forecast tomorrow. In some areas of the country, the fog is likely to start clearing later today.
