Feeling that itch for some winter sun can be incredibly tantalising, yet the dilemma on where to jet off to might leave you in a bit of a pickle.
There’s a plethora of options to choose from, however, numerous holiday packages could burn a hole in your pocket, more so when you’re counting the pennies – particularly if you’ve already indulged in a getaway earlier this year.
Travel enthusiast Ralph, known on TikTok as @ralph__travels, recently spilled the beans on the “perfect affordable holiday to enjoy the sun this winter” – and it’s simply breath-taking.
Moreover, snagging a flight deal for as little as £36 is possible, with Ralph dedicating his video to singing the praises of this spectacular destination. So which locale has earned his seal of approval for winter warmth? None other than the enchanting city of Marrakesh in Morocco.
During a brief stint of three nights in Marrakesh, Ralph quipped he “managed to gain 2kg” – a testament to the delectable and wallet-friendly cuisine, featuring fare like “chicken shwarmas, chicken Caesar salads, massive shwarma wraps, eggs and Turkey, and […] a 10/10 breakfast” every single day.
He expressed astonishment at Marrakesh’s “home to some of the most beautiful gardens” he’s ever encountered. Despite usually being nonchalant about gardens, Ralph found himself utterly captivated by these sites, describing them as “super impressive”.
Furthermore, his mum was completely taken by the experience, “loving every single minute” whilst fervently capturing the scenic splendour.
In addition to the greenery, Ralph spoke of coming across “a pond full of turtles”, which became an irresistible distraction for him. He remarked on their cuteness and whimsically admitted he “really wanted to take one home”.
He expressed concerns that a four-day trip to Marrakesh “wouldn’t be enough”, yet concluded it was the “perfect amount of time” to spend there. He highlighted the bargain: “The fact that you’re able to book a return flight from London to Marrakesh direct for just £36 […] it’s a no brainer”.
In the thread, some users argued against visiting Marrakesh in December due to subpar weather, but Ralph countered, noting that temperatures can reach a pleasant 20 degrees Celsius, “much warmer than the UK! “.
Complaints surfaced about lengthy waits at passport control, with one person claiming they spent “longer in passport control than the journey”, and another chiming in: “It’s lovely but passport control is a nightmare 2/3 hours wait”. Ralph acknowledged the issue, admitting: “That’s ‘true’. It’s quite slow! ! ” Yet, others defended the process, insisting they’d “never had a problem there”.
One enthusiastic traveller shared her excitement: “Just booked this, even more excited now”. Meanwhile, on Reddit‘s Solo Travel forum, a user lavished praise on Marrakesh, saying: “Marrakech is a beautiful, unique and historical city with an unforgettable atmosphere. The medina is hypnotising and even getting lost down the side-streets is ridiculously fun. I’m lucky to have a weirdly good sense of direction and landmark recognition so I after a few days, I knew exactly how to navigate around to find my hostel, Jemaa el-Fnaa square, my favourite restaurants etc.. without any problems.”
“Morocco is one of my favourite countries and everyone there is super friendly, there’s a few bad people but it’s no worse than major cities like London or Prague […] Obviously it’s not for a everyone – if you’re a person who doesn’t enjoy chaos and energetic environments then simply don’t go to Marrakech – go to Essaouira or somewhere along the coast (not Casablanca..). However – if this is the kind of environment that you thrive in – then please don’t be turned off this amazing city by some people who had a bad experience.”
