With the New Year comes renewed efforts to pick the next best holiday destination.
In fact, over half of UK travellers are now booking holidays three-to-six months in advance and some even planning the entire year’s travel by January.
However, with constantly changing weather patterns, off-peak prices and flight availability, it is difficult to narrow down where, and when, you should jet off.
Luckily, the travel experts at eShores have revealed their handpicked destinations for every month of the year so savvy travellers can beat the crowds and secure better value escapes.
“January offers the year’s best window for holiday planning,” says Gavin Lapidus, founder of eShores. “We’re seeing a significant shift towards early bookings, with travellers securing better rates and prime accommodation before peak season demand drives prices up.”
From remote Arctic islands to hidden Mediterranean gems, revealed below is a definitive month-by-month guide of 2025’s most compelling travel destinations.
Kick off the year with a history-packed escape to Europe’s sunniest capital, in Malta.
Valletta in January offers a perfect winter escape with temperatures around 15-17°C, minimal tourists, and direct UK flights.
January: Valletta, Malta.
This UNESCO World Heritage city provides an ideal alternative to the UK’s coldest month. Founded in 1566 by the Knights of St. John and built in just 15 years, this picturesque city was named the most beautiful “hidden gem” in Europe last summer.
With 82 landmarks and 820 things to do, Valetta is a great holiday spot for tourists looking for an adventure with less crowds.
February: Essaouira, Morocco.
Considering a visit to Morocco? Move over Marrakech – the chic, chilled coastal gem Essaouira offers mild 18-20C weather, fewer crowds, and a bohemian atmosphere at more affordable prices than Morocco’s traditional hotspots in February.
Often overlooked by the typical tourist crowd, this windswept seaside town on Morocco’s Atlantic coast feels like a well-kept secret.
Famed for its chilled tone, colourful markets and history, Essaouira features an active fishing port and a World Heritage site medina.
With its art-filled alleyways, sunlit squares, and spice-scented streets, Essaouira is perfect for anyone looking for a slice of authentic Moroccan life, minus the hefty price tag.
March: Seville, Spain.
Hit up Seville, a city in southwest Spain, in March.
Dubbed the “Iberian oven”, Seville experiences hot air blowing from North Africa, exacerbated by its position in the foothills of nearby mountains, which creates a perfect storm for sweltering heat.
But, at this time of year, the country’s cultural capital stuns during its orange blossom season, with comfortable 20-24C temperatures, fewer tourists than peak months, and quick, easy travel from the UK.
As an added bonus, Seville was named Europe’s most walkable city, with its winding streets in the historic centre so narrow that they “prohibit most traffic”, said Lonely Planet.
April: Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia.
Discover Europe’s hidden lake paradise at Lake Ohrid – one of Europe’s oldest and deepest lakes – in North Macedonia in April.
This UNESCO gem offers crystal waters and heritage charm. Expect mild 18-22C weather at a fraction of Lake Como costs.
Nestled in the mountainous border between North Macedonia and Albania, the peaceful destination is described as “the most beautiful place on Earth” by one Tripadvisor user.
The lake is home to more than 200 endemic species and hosts a unique ecosystem that thrives in the crystal clear 288 metre deep water.
