Rodrigo Bentancur left the field on a stretcher after suffering a concerning injury during Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
The Uruguay midfielder stooped low to head a corner after seven minutes but was left on the ground as play stopped, with immediate concern from his team-mates.
Bentancur received medical attention for nine minutes before he was replaced by Brennan Johnson at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham released an update on Bentancur’s condition at half-time, which read: “We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks.”
Ronnie Kelly had a goal chalked off as Pickering dominated the opening half-hour, but they were ultimately made to pay for not taking their chances.
