This beautiful city is a much loved European destination but British expats say it’s the worst place to live.
Deciding where to relocate isn’t easy but many Brits consider Europe a great place to move – it offers a different lifestyle to the UK without being too far away.
Milan is known for its iconic landmarks, incredible architecture and traditional Italian charm – but Brits say it’s not a great place to live.
They revealed that they struggle with the housing and job security in the city, making it a less enjoyable place to live.
The Italian city also scored poorly for dealing with bureaucracy, opening a local bank account and securing a visa.
Over three in five expats in Milan say it’s difficult to find housing or to live there without speaking the local language.
While expats appreciate the leisure options, especially the opportunity to travel, they don’t feel safe and aren’t satisfied with the urban environment.
Every year, InterNations, a global community for people who live abroad, carries out a survey. Over 12,000 expats were included in its research to find out the best places to relocate to across 49 cities across the world.
Spanish cities dominated the top ten destinations for expats in 2023, reports EuroNews.
In top spot is Malaga which was voted the best place for expats to live.
The research revealed Valencia is the best expat city for healthcare, Madrid is loved for its culture and Rome offers a pleasant climate but poor transport.
In Germany, expats in Hamburg are unhappiest with their social life.
While in France, expats enjoy Paris’ thriving cultural scene but find it unfriendly, hard to get by without speaking the language and expensive.
Meanwhile, one country has taken home the top spot for the largest change in its international migrants, seeing almost a 4000 percent increase in the last 30 years – and it’s not in Europe.
The experts at William Russell analysed data from the last 30 years, to reveal the countries with the biggest change in immigration.
Coming in first place is South Korea. This east Asian country has seen the highest change in immigration from an international migrant population of 43,247 in 1990 to 1,728,182 in 2024.
