Police searching for a British man in Majorca have found a second body having recovered the remains of a British woman earlier this week.
It is believed both were swept away during flash floods on the Spanish island earlier this week.
Spain’s Civil Guard said they were making their way to a small canyon via a trail when the storm hit on Tuesday.
A huge search operation has been underway near the Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountains since Wednesday.
The British woman was found on the first day of the search, while the man’s remains were found on Friday, Reuters reported.
The area, which has a hidden beach, frequently floods from autumn until spring.
The Civil Guard said 10 people were rescued from the canyon.
They said: “Officers were able to save the lives of 10 people who were trapped, without protective clothing, and completely soaked. They were transferred to safety using guides to assist them.
“Once they reached a safe spot the rescued walkers, two Spaniards and the rest French, German and British, told us two members of a group of five who were among those assisted had been swept away by a torrent of water and they had been unable to do anything to save them and didn’t know where they were.
“A separate search and rescue operation was mobilised until nightfall which began again today with assistance from firefighters.”
Spain’s Balearic Islands and the east coast of Spain have been hit with strong winds and rain this week.
The Torrent de Pareis is a UNESCO World Heritage site, making it popular with tourists.
It is popular with walkers who want to take in the scenery and explore the deep canyon, which opens onto a beach in the bay of Sa Calobra.
