No visit to Blackpool is complete without a visit to the 131-year-old world-famous South Pier, located near Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Once known as the Victoria Pier, the South Pier is the smallest and youngest of the three piers in Blackpool. It was officially renamed in 1930.
Opening in 1863, North Pier is Blackpool’s oldest pier while construction of Central Pier was completed just five years later
Designed to be more ‘upmarket’ than the first two piers, the South Pier eventually settled into its reputation as the family pier, and the ideal place for an afternoon out with the family.
South Pier has something for everyone whether you’re looking for rides, live entertainment, amusement arcades, food stalls or games.
It is the most adrenaline-powered of the three piers where you will find fairground rides for the little ones and adrenaline rides for big thrill seekers.
The Crazy Coaster the UK’s fastest spinning wild mouse ride. While the Cliffhanger and Sky Coaster rides are not for the faint-hearted.
South Pier is so typically Blackpool with its razzmatazz, brightly coloured signage, amazing Victorian architecture, beautiful sea views, and of course the fun-loving atmosphere.
While you are there you may be tempted to pop into The Gin House which opened in 2021 and where you can dance away to live music from talented artists and DJs throughout the summer while sipping on tasty cocktails.
You can also enjoy the outdoor seating with a fantastic view – no booking required.
When you’re feeling peckish, stop off at the Happy Haddock – the fish and chip restaurant which sells a variety of favourites as well as fish and chips.
At South Pier’s arcade, you will find a wide range of pinball machines, plus retro arcade video games including Donkey Derby and other timeless favourites.
Admission to the South Pier is completely free while ride tickets range from £1.10 per ticket.
In 2025 all visitors will need an ETA to travel to the UK except UK, Irish and Overseas Territories citizens. Credit: Tanaonte@ iStock
