French mountain sports brand Salomon is busy expanding internationally, and has recently appointed a new CEO. James Zheng, boss of Salomon’s owner Amer Sports group, who had been acting as interim CEO after Franco Fogliato left in the spring, has picked Guillaume Meyzenq to lead the brand from January 1, 2025.
Meyzenq is very well acquainted with Salomon, having worked at the brand for the last 28 years. In his role as vice-president in charge of footwear, in recent years Meyzenq notably set Salomon on an impressively fast growth track in the trail running segment, as well as expanding its lifestyle range.
“Tapping his experience in international sales, both in winter sports and outdoor footwear, Guillaume will expand his role to unlock the company’s potential,” said Zheng, CEO of Amer Sports. “Meyzenq is an inspirational leader who harmoniously combines Salomon’s core values with his unique leadership style, characterised by rigorous commitment. His bold vision and unwavering commitment to innovation will propel Salomon to new heights, strengthening its status as a global leader in mountain sports and lifestyle,” he added.
In July this year, Meyzenq had taken charge of the Softgoods category at Salomon.
“This new chapter marks the culmination of a rich and exciting professional journey with this brand, which I joined 28 years ago as an intern. Since that very first day, I have been driven by the same passion for innovation and excellence that defines Salomon,” said Meyzenq in a post on LinkedIn, adding that “over the years, and thanks to the opportunities I’ve had to hold various key positions, I have developed a broad and global expertise. From sales to product management, including business development, I’ve had the chance to contribute to the brand’s success at different levels and on an international scale. This diverse and enriching experience has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Salomon… My ambition for Salomon is clear: to establish our brand as the symbol of modernity, responsibility, and success in this industry.”
Meyzenq remains based at Annecy, Salomon’s headquarters in the heart of the French Alps, and will report to Zheng.
On November 19, the Amer Sports group (owner among others of Arc’Teryx, Wilson, Peak Performance and Atomic) reported a 17% rise in revenue, to $1.354 billion.
