Sainsbury’s announces major change to stores and cuts 3,000 jobs
Sainsbury’s will cut 3,000 jobs by closing down its remaining cafés, patisseries and pizza counters, the chain has announced.
In a statement, the supermarket said the decision would “simplify the business”, arguing that the majority of Sainsbury’s most loyal shoppers “do not use the cafés regularly”.
The redunancies will also include some at the senior level, with the chain anticipating “an estimated 20% reduction in senior management roles over the next few months”.
Sainsbury’s CEO Simon Roberts said the grocery giant faces “a particularly challenging cost environment” which has neccessitated “tough choices”.
