Arsenal could be without first-choice goalkeeper David Raya for their seismic Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
And when drawn on Raya’s absence after the game, Arteta said: “He certainly could not play and he’s injured and that’s it. We’ll see how it improves.”
Speaking on Friday, Arteta added: “David we’re still uncertain. We have another session tomorrow. We have 48 hours so we will have to see.”
Former Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto is the most suitable replacement, and Arteta feels comfortable deploying the Brazilian, adding: “That’s why he’s here, to do that job, and he’s done it for 20-odd years in his career.
“I’m very happy, first of all, that he played. It’s been seven months, eight months almost, since he played his last competitive match and it’s not easy, so I’m very happy that he played and we won again.”
Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Jesus remain out for Arsenal, while Arteta said earlier in January it is a “possibility” Ben White could be back in action before the end of the month. The defender, though, has not returned to training.
Oscar Bobb was tipped by Pep Guardiola to return to action against Club Brugge on Wednesday, in what would have been his first appearance since suffering a leg fracture in August.
But the 21-year-old failed to make the bench for the Champions League clash, though his return is still expected imminently.
Jeremy Doku was also ruled out on Wednesday and is a doubt for the Arsenal clash. Asked about the winger, Guardiola said: “A while. I don’t know how much. But a while. He will not be ready for Wednesday for sure, I don’t think. For Arsenal, we’ll see.”
Ruben Dias was also out of the crucial European tie, and the timeframe on his return has not yet been revealed by Guardiola. “I don’t know yet [how long he will be out for],” the City boss said. “He was stable, always was able to play a lot of games, but this season started to, yeah… It is what it is.”
Speaking on Friday, Guardiola confirmed there is no change to the status of his side’s injured players: “No, we will continue the same.”
Nathan Ake’s return date is also unknown, but John Stones’ return to fitness has eased City’s defensive shortage.
But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are boosted by the returns of Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo, having both not made a league appearance since August.
“Callum is out. He is not going to be involved in the game. It is a big absence for us,” Nuno said. “We are still assessing.
“It is something we hope to improve soon but he is not going to be available for this game. The rest is basically the same. Ibrahim and Danilo are ready; they joined the squad.”
Brighton’s treatment room is certainly more populated, though Fabian Hurzeler said striker Evan Ferguson “is an option to play” after being ruled out with a foot injury since the turn of the year.
Pervis Estupinan, Solly March and Mats Wieffer are all out, according to the Brighton boss, while defender Igor is reportedly expected to be a long-term absentee with a thigh problem.
Ferdi Kadioglu and James Milner have yet to return from their respective issues, which have kept them out since November and August respectively.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot said that injured trio Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are all back in training ahead of their trip to in-form Bournemouth on Saturday.
“All three are in training today,” Slot said on Friday. “The question is are they all ready far enough to join us towards Bournemouth?
“That is something we will have to wait and see today because we have probably more than 20 available so we have to make the smartest decision for them but also winning the game tomorrow.”
Curtis Jones, meanwhile, is also a doubt, having been out since being forced off at half-time during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Lille.
Many of Slot’s squad enjoyed a well-earned midweek break, as the Reds took a young squad to PSV Eindhoven – where they were eventually defeated 3-2 – having already secured a last-16 spot.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was without eight players as his side romped to a 5-0 victory over Forest last week.
While timeframes on the returns of Luis Sinisterra and Alex Scott are uncertain, the Cherries will remain without Evanilson (fractured metatarsal), Enes Unal (ACL) and Marcos Senesi (quad).
The Bournemouth boss said on Friday: “From the ones that are injured, the only player that has started doing stuff with us recently is Luis Sinisterra. We will assess him again today, but it is not certain that he will be involved this weekend.”
Iraola’s side have not tasted defeat since November, but face the toughest of tests as they take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Matty Cash was forced off during Aston Villa’s 4-2 win over Celtic on Wednesday, and he is expected to be out for “three or four weeks”.
But Unai Emery has insisted that Tyrone Mings’ recent knock – sustained against West Ham United on Sunday – is “small”, despite the defender being forced off in the first half.
Emery said on Friday: “We will train this afternoon but Matty Cash is not available, he’s going to be, more or less, three or four weeks out.
“Tyrone Mings is a small injury, not really bad but I think he will need some days more to be ready to play.”
Ross Barkley is expected to soon return to fitness following a calf injury sustained earlier this month, alongside fellow midfielder Amadou Onana, who Emery said was training alone ahead of the Hammers clash.
Pau Torres (fractured metatarsal) remains out.
Tottenham will be without James Maddison and Radu Dragusin in fresh injury blows for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Asked about the defender’s setback on Friday, the Spurs boss said: “Yeah, we have to let it settle down and obviously get some more information over the weekend. Not available for this weekend at the moment.
“It’s a knee so we will let it settle down. There is always concern when it’s a knee.”
Postecoglou, meanwhile, confirmed on Wednesday that Maddison would be out for “two to three weeks” with a calf strain.
The Australian added that Cristian Romero is not yet ready to return, but Spurs have been boosted in the defensive department by Micky van de Ven’s first-half appearance on Thursday.
On Van de Ven’s potential involvement against Brentford, Postecoglou said: “Probably not 90 [minutes] because of the short turnaround but he felt really good last night.
“It was great to have him out there. You know he is a good player but you don’t realise how much of a good player he is until [he’s not there].”
The Tottenham boss confirmed that Djed Spence should be “okay” for the trip to Brentford, but Brennan Johnson is expected to remain out.
Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke and Timo Werner are also out.
Luke Shaw was back in training for Manchester United this week, though it remains to be seen how soon the defender will return to the matchday squad.
And Ruben Amorim is not rushing the defender back into action, saying on Friday: “It will take a little bit more time. I think he needs to train more, to spend more time with his team-mates playing normal or small-sided games, not just working alone.
“He stayed to do a different type of work, he’s going to get together with the team when we arrive [back to Manchester]. When I feel it is the right moment, he will get minutes in the games.”
Shaw missed out on the trip to Romania to take on FCSB in the Europa League on Thursday, alongside Marcus Rashford – as Amorim urged the forward to “change” his approach in training in order to come back into the reckoning.
Jonny Evans and Mason Mount have not featured since the turn of the year, and are expected to remain out as United face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Romeo Lavia is set to remain sidelined as Chelsea take on West Ham United on Monday.
Enzo Maresca said ahead of his side’s trip to Manchester City that the midfielder will be sidelined for “a few weeks more”, as they learn the extent of the injury which forced him off against Brentford.
Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are long-term absentees for Maresca’s side, and are not expected to return against their former manager Graham Potter.
Maresca confirmed as much in his press conference on Friday: “No. Exactly the same as the last game. Wes [Fofana] is out, Romeo [Lavia] is out and Benoit [Badiashile] is out. The rest are okay.”
Everton boss David Moyes said he may “need” to deploy centre half Michael Keane at striker against Leicester City due to injuries to his natural forwards.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has sustained a minor injury, leaving Everton short up front with Armando Broja also out.
Asked about Keane’s potential involvement further up the pitch, Moyes responded: “Let’s be fair, he’s not a centre-forward but everyone seems to tell me he’s always done quite well.
“I remember him from years ago and he played very well for Burnley before he came here and when I was at Manchester United I had him for a while.
“I do think we are probably going to try anything. We are going to need everybody to be adaptable and flexible and see what possibilities we’ve got.
“It’s not my first thought but I might need it.”
