Night one winner Luke Humphries, speaking to Sky Sports: “I thought I played pretty well in the first
game, then against Michael [van Gerwen] I was very fortunate.
“It’s not like him to miss that
amount of doubles but in that eighth or ninth leg, he let me in. Then in the
final, me and Chris noticed there was a bit of a breeze that was hard to play
through.
“But they were blowing my darts into the doubles so I was happy. Hopefully there’s a breeze more often!”
On aims for this year: “I’m happy to get a good
start. My goal is to get into the top four, that’s all that matters. Finish
second, finish third, fourth – it does not matter.
“Great start and I thought I followed on from last weekend
[winning the World Masters].
“Last year I knew it was going to be tough and it was. You
just learn all the time, you always want to be better.
“I think this is the hardest Premier League for a long, long
time. For me, nights like this, you’ve got to be careful or they might not
happen as often as you want.
“It’s important that you get off to a good start
because the last two years I haven’t got off to a great start in the seasons.
“This year there is a lot more players in form. I think the
PDC made the right call, the right players are in.
“It is going to be a very
tough Premier League, you’re not going to see someone stuck at the bottom for a
long time. It’s going to chop and change.”
