Essex Police said it had one of its busiest nights during the Euro 2024 final, with 30 incidents linked to the football.

Officers were called to a mixture of disturbances and fights across the county linked to the Spain v England match on Sunday.

A 45-year-old man was arrested in Loughton on suspicion of criminal damage after England’s loss, and three assaults in a Benfleet pub car park are also under investigation.

Police said they were also inquiring into a robbery in Southend shortly after the match, when a man’s phone and wallet were stolen by two people.

Ch Supt Simon Anslow said a large-scale operation was in place for the final fixture.

“I’m pleased to confirm we haven’t seen repeated cases of large-scale disorder, or major incidents, linked to the football in Essex,” he said.

“Last night was our busiest night, we did see around 30 incidents linked specifically to the match.

“I would thank the vast majority of fans for behaving in a responsible manner throughout the tournament.”
