The Tower of London is an iconic English landmark that has imprisoned some of Britain’s most famous historical figures – but not all tourists are impressed by the attraction.
Now that summer has arrived the Tower of London will be bustling with tourists which means many visitors have now taken to social media to express their opinions on their travels.
The reviews of the Tower of London are overwhelmingly positive, but the few negative posts are hilarious, unusual or just downright grumpy, so here are some of the best reviews left by disgruntled tourists.
One visitor took to Tripadvisor to express their disappointment at not being haunted by the ghost of Anne Boylyn during their visit and went on to leave a one-star review.
They wrote: “The Warden told me the ghost of Anne Boleyn wanders around the grounds, carrying her own head, but I didn’t see it, obviously not true.”
Another upset tourist left a negative review after being shocked that the historic prison had executed people in the past and seemed to wish the tour guide had more cheerful stories to tell.
A woman from Los Angeles wrote: “This place has been around since the 11th century. Hundreds and thousands of people have lived and worked here. There are as many stories that one could tell.
“But, instead our Yeoman Warder tour guide focused on stories of the small handful of people who were executed on site – five of six were women, and all apparently unjustly. This was beyond grim because our tour guide’s tone was celebratory, practically gleeful about this history.”
In one scathing Google review, a tourist was upset that the popular attraction had lots of people visiting.
They wrote: “Not worth the money I paid! Was far too overcrowded! You couldn’t look at anything as there were too many people there…not worth the money, and trust me, there were four of us, so it added up!”
However, one very colourful review criticised not just their visit to the Tower of London but the entire Royal Family.
The furious man opined: “My tower visit today taught me little more than that the British monarchy was littered with horrendously immoral people. I didn’t bother with the hellish-looking line to see the crown jewels but I’m pretty sure I’d rather see them melted town or sold for scrap.”
An unhappy visitor was upset that foliage was blowing around the Tower grounds and left a one-star review after becoming irate at seeing leaves on top of a lion statue.
They wrote: “Wanted to visit the Tower of London, but one of the Lions has LEAFS in his mane. We thought: that’s kinda unacceptable. So we left immediately. Just one Star. Never again!”
One other tourist left a negative review after being dissatisfied with the height of the Tower of London and felt they had been deceived.
The man wrote: “How can it be called a tower when it’s only four stories high? I’ve seen Travelodges with more floors. False advertising.”
And finally, one American tourist who visited the Tower of London last year was left upset after visiting during King Charles’ coronation and not being able to see the Crown Jewels.
The man wrote: “Ripped off ROYALLY. Seriously? Most of the Crown Jewels were gone for the Coronation. I’m an American. Didn’t even know that the king thing was happening when I bought the tickets while still in US. “
