Brits looking to explore one of Spain‘s hidden gems are being urged to check out a stunning city that often flies under the radar of international tourists.
While Pamplona is renowned for its stunning landmarks, it’s perhaps best known for a centuries-old tradition that captures the world’s attention every year.
The city is most famously associated with the Fiesta de San Fermín, a festival that takes place every July and sees thousands of attendants run ahead of a pack of bulls through the city‘s narrow streets.
Beyond the festival, Pamplona is full of hidden gems and unique corners and historical buildings waiting to be explored.
From the stunning architecture of the Catedral de Pamplona, with its intricate Gothic details, to the lively Plaza del Castillo, which serves as the heart of the city, there’s much more to discover.
The city’s Old Town offers cobbled streets lined with cafes and restaurants, perfect for enjoying traditional Spanish tapas.
Joanne Lynn, Head of European Product at Riviera Travel, highlighted Pamplona as a destination that should be on every traveller’s list.
She said: “I recommend Pamplona to anyone looking to unwind in one of Spain’s less-visited destinations.
“The city, located in the northern region of Spain, is often forgotten as one of Spain’s most beautiful locations, home to landmarks such as the Catedral de Pamplona and the Plaza del Castillo.”
Tripadvisor reviewers also commended the city’s beauty, sharing their experience making this unexpected discovery.
Annete B said: “We thought it would be just another city but in reality we found a beautiful historic city that was full of delights.
“Complete with very clear signage this visitor-oriented city was clean and had quaint buildings, lovely narrow streets and much more to see.
“The Citadel isn’t mentioned in many of the tourist books but is well worth the visit [for free].”
Kendall added: “I suggest you join the crowd, soaking up the ambiance on the narrow, winding pedestrians-only streets.
“The buildings are hundreds of years old, so the brightly dressed, stylish Spaniards seem to present a time and space disconnect.
“Spanish culture generally values traditional architecture, so you’ll see buildings that have been beautifully restored rather than replaced with something new.”
