We are coming to the end of the 2025 award season with the Academy Awards set to take place on Sunday, but it is ending on a high that’s for sure. This weekend, both the Independent Spirit Awards and the SAG Awards took place, and we saw probably the best fashion of the season on the red carpet. One of our favourite looks of the weekend came courtesy of Nicola Coughlan at the SAGs in a beautiful custom Dior gown, a dress so special that it needed over 550 hours of work in the house’s Paris atelier.
Coughlan and her stylist Aimée Croysdill worked with the French fashion house on the custom look, a baby blue belted silk coat dress. The design was inspired by the 1950s, and by Dior’s most famous silhouette, The New Look, but was given a very modern spin thanks to the addition of the super long black leather gloves. They added sparkling Bucherer jewels and black satin pumps.
Of course, Coughlan is no stranger to Dior, and particularly loves the house’s most classic silhouettes – she wore another New Look-inspired Dior ensemble to our Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in November in the form of a belted black blazer and ankle-length skirt. At the time, she gushed about some of the other classic Dior pieces she’s worn. “When I was considering what to wear, we just thought, why not go for Dior again? It’s been such a winning combo.”
The baby blue dress however was an even more personal choice for Coughlan who was nodding to Bridgerton with the hue, for which she was nominated on the night.
Above, step inside the Dior atelier and see how the beautiful design came to life – and catch up on more of the best-dressed stars at the 2025 SAG Awards here.
