Britons on a budget are in for a treat this month as nine Lidl supermarkets are opening.
The German retail giant says the nine ‘state-of-the-art stores’ will create hundreds of new jobs.
Among the new locations include Canning Town, a residential area of east London.
Elsewhere in the UK, Preston in Lancashire, Walsall in the West Midlands, and Wombourne, a village in South Staffordshire, are getting new stores.
Five existing Lidls closed for refurbishment will re-open this month, too.
The retailer promises they will be ‘bigger and better’.
Other locations include West Ealing in west London, Oldbrook in Milton Keynes, Wells in Somerset, Blantyre in Scotland and Cwmbran in Wales.
These stores will have ‘bigger sales areas and modern amenities’, Lidl said.
However, the retailer did not give an exact date for when each store will open.
The discount grocer opened the doors of a wave of new branches in the run-up to Christmas last year as part of its ‘ongoing expansion drive’.
New supermarket locations included Berwick Green in Bristol, Bovey Tracey in Devon and Stirchley in Birmingham.
Lidl bosses hope to open more branches this year. There are around 970 Lidl stores but plans could see that number increase to 1,100.

Richard Taylor, chief development officer at Lidl GB, said: ‘As we begin the new year, we’re maintaining our momentum and opening nine state-of-the-art stores, delivering bigger and better shopping experiences to new communities and those we’ve proudly served for an average of 26 years.
‘After a record-breaking Christmas, where millions of households turned to Lidl, these openings reflect the growing demand for our unbeatable value and quality.
‘This is just the start – we’ve got more openings in the pipeline this year alone and can’t wait to welcome even more customers, both loyal and new, through our doors in the weeks ahead.’
