Manchester United are reportedly set to win the race to secure the signature of Leny Yoro, with the defender flying to the United Kingdom to undergo his medical with the club.
The Lille star was previously keen to sign for Real Madrid this summer and had given the Spanish outfit priority throughout negotiations with other clubs.
However, United pounced to strike an agreement with Lille worth £59million (including add-ons) and have now managed to accelerate proceedings.
According to The Athletic, Yoro is set to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms with United soon.
Lille are keen to sell the 18-year-old this summer as his contract with the club expires next summer and extension talks have fallen on deaf ears.
The Ligue 1 outfit ‘strongly favour’ selling to United and the player has also ‘warmed’ to the idea of joining Erik ten Hag’s side – having previously not shown a willingness to head to Old Trafford when the agreement was initially reached last week.
There is said to still be ‘work to be done’ to get the deal over the line, though Yoro flying to England is a major indicator that the France youth international is willing to put pen to paper with the Red Devils.
Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are both admirers of Yoro as well, but both clubs felt that Madrid were leading the race to acquire his services and that they were too well-positioned to turn his head. However, United have been persistent throughout negotiations and barring an unexpected transfer hijack, Ten Hag is set to see his defensive ranks bolstered with one of Europe’s top talents.
