Liverpool supporters have been speaking about Darwin Nunez following the draw with Newcastle United
Darwin Nunez continues to divide opinion among Liverpool supporters following his performance against Newcastle United. The Reds were held to a 3-3 draw by Eddie Howe’s side at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Salah looked as though he was once again set to be Liverpool’s hero after his late double saw the league leaders come from behind twice, but Fabian Schar scored in stoppage time following a mistake by Caoimhin Kelleher to ensure the points were shared.
However, Nunez missed a big chance in the second half to get his own name on the scoresheet. And supporters, commentating in the comments section of Ian Doyle’s post-match analysis piece, have delivered their own verdicts on the forward.

Garybos wrote: “Such negativity. We’re 9 points ahead in the league and nearly won at a ground where none of the top 4 have won so far this season. St James Park is a very difficult place to get a result especially since Newcastle raise their game and intensity against the top teams. Instead of slagging off LFC and certain players, we should appreciate their resilience and fight to get results at places like Newcastle and Arsenal.”
Michael5 said: “We don’t have the time or the luxury of waiting for Nunez to fulfil his potential as an out-and-out forward, and we’re never going to recoup anything like the amount of money that we paid for him, so I think he should stay and act as cover, but not upfront. He has the tenacity and the ability to press and break play down. He also has a natural inclination to move the ball forward. Apart from him struggling to find the net, his sense of position simply isn’t good enough. He’s always offside. Maybe a change of position would be better for him and the team. What about a midfield role?”
CanuckfromBootle agreed, saying: “Agreed but don’t think he’s got the nous to operate in the middle. He’s probably our most aggressive player but we paid 85 million for a goal scorer who does everything but!”
Kwashe said: “Nunez has issues yes, he missed only twice yesterday. How many chances did he get. We were playing without a midfield to talk about. Defence wise, our right back was very poor. Gomez to me was great except one mistake that almost gifted Newcastle a goal, otherwise Gomez was our only dependable fullback followed by Rob, VVD and last but least JQ. We lost mainly because of one mistake by an otherwise great goal keeper.”
Frankie17 declared: “I defend Nunez to the hilt.”
Kw101 feels: “There is a top player in there somewhere with Nunez. Sadly I think it’ll be somewhere else later in his career. He’s had plenty of chances now and even though his effort lifts the team and causes issues. Strikers are judged on goals and assists. I’ll be sad to see him leave, but think it’s probably time. get a sell on clause in there as he’s still young and he will have a season where everything goes in and people will be raving.”
Ramon23 said: “The team looked leggy and jaded from the previous two games last night . Yet there seems to be certain people on here that think we don’t need improvements and more players added to the squad.”
