The Kentucky Wildcats have scored another visit from a big-time transfer.

According to Travis Branham, Kentucky will host Utah point guard Deivon Smith this weekend.

Smith will be a fifth-year player with one season of eligibility remaining.

Smith was originally a class of 2020 recruit who actually had interest from Kentucky before signing with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, then transferred to Georgia Tech for two seasons before landing at Utah last season.

Last season, the 6-foot, 173-pound Smith averaged 13.3 points (46.7% shooting and 40.8% on 3s), 7.1 assists, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 29.5 minutes per contest.

Kentucky is also hoping to land a visit from 5-star small forward Liam McNeeley, who just wrapped up an official visit to UConn. While the Huskies are seen as the favorites, McNeeley has yet to make a commitment.

According to 247 Sports’ Eric Bossi, Kentucky is fighting to get McNeeley to Lexington for a visit.

“I think the back-to-back national champions are in really, really good shape, but I also feel like we’ll see him take at least one more visit before things are all said and done,” Bossi said via Cats Pause’s Chris Fisher. “Kentucky and Michigan are two teams I would maybe keep an eye on as potential visiting spots. So, I’m going to go ahead and place UConn as probably the leader and the team to beat, but I don’t think they’re all the way quite across that finish line just yet and still may have to withstand maybe one more visit.”

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound McNeeley is currently ranked as the No. 18 overall player and the No. 5 small forward in the 2024 class, according to 247 Sports Composite. His highest ranking is ninth overall at ESPN.

Mark Pope and Kentucky are facing an uphill battle here, but just getting a visit would show this program won’t stop being a contender for elite high school recruits in the post-Coach Cal era.
