An English town has been described as resembling ‘apocalyptic Britain’ due to closed down shops.
Essex, often maligned by outsiders due to crime rates or towns in disrepair, has seen one of its towns, Tilbury, recently come under fire on TikTok.
The port town, whose existence is largely due to the port and associated businesses, was described as ‘what apocalyptic Britain would look like’.
Dilan Kurt, a TikToker known for his area reviews, shared his views on Tilbury after speaking with residents and workers.
He stated: “The other day, I was in Dagenham, and I thought – what a treacherous place. Now there is one worse place in Essex – and that is Tilbury.”
He further claimed that the 2016 film Grimsby, set in England’s worst town, was filmed in Tilbury, saying, “That definitely says a lot about the area, doesn’t it? “
He highlighted the numerous closed shops and faded paint on businesses, suggesting that if Britain were to experience an apocalypse, Tilbury would be its image.
However, reporters at EssexLive beg to differ, pointing out that Tilbury is home to the famous Tilbury Fort, built by Henry VIII, and the site of Elizabeth I’s renowned speech to troops during the war against the Spanish Armada.
The fort is hailed as potentially the finest example of a 17th-century bastioned artillery fortress in the British Isles.
Moreover, the town has frequently been used as a filming location for Hollywood blockbusters, including Paddington and Wonder Woman, both shot in Tilbury.
Drivers are likely to face travel chaos over the weekend as parts of the the M25 - the UK's busiest motorway - will be closed for two days.National Highways Eng
