An aviation expert and seasoned travel writer has issued a warning to travellers about a commonly worn item of clothing on flights.
As we all gear up for our travels, selecting the right airport attire is crucial for comfort during those lengthy trips.
Christine Negroni, an American author, has surprisingly advised against donning leggings often hailed as the ultimate comfort wear for air travel.
The reason behind this advice isn’t related to style but pertains to passenger safety.
Speaking to The Sun, Christine highlighted that leggings are “one of the most dangerous things a passenger could wear if an emergency occurs onboard”.
With her expertise cemented by a book delving into the world of air disasters, she pointed out that in the event of a crash or cabin fire, leggings could result in severe scarring, reports MyLondon.
In her conversation with Sun Online Travel, she cautioned: “You might have to escape through a cabin fire or there could be a separate fire on the ground once you leave the aircraft.
“Everyone is wearing yoga pants on planes now, but I avoid all artificial fibres because they are more likely to burn and stick to you if there is a fire. I’d advise wearing cotton clothes or anything made of natural fibres.”
She also advised that passengers should avoid taking off their shoes during a flight, citing safety reasons.
Christine stated: “One of the best things people can do is put their shoes on for take-off and landing. This is still not required by many airlines and I think it ought to be.
“If you escape an aircraft, the floor could be very hot or cold, it might be covered in oil or on fire, or in a cornfield you won’t want to be barefoot. Mainly err on the side of caution.
“Pick sneakers over high heels, pick natural fibres over synthetic, and take tight-fitting clothes over loose-fitting.”
This implies that wearing flip flops or sandals may not be the best choice either.
Your clothing selection could potentially aid you in an emergency situation.
