Harry Kane has a huge opportunity to put one hand on his first trophy when Bayern Munich face Bayer Leverkusen this evening.

The England captain has infamously never lifted a piece of silverware in his career but will never have a better chance to win a league title.

Kane missed out on every avenue for glory during his first season with Bayern last campaign following his move from Tottenham.

His side were beaten in the German Super Cup final before missing out on the Bundesliga title to unbeaten champions Leverkusen – before then coming runners-up at Euro 2024 with England.

However, Bayern can extend their gap at the top of the table to 11 points with just 12 matches remaining by beating nearest challengers Leverkusen.

Vincent Kompany‘s side have won seven straight Bundesliga games since a surprise defeat to Mainz before the Germany winter break.

Xabi Alonso‘s champions remain the only team with a realistic hope of overhauling Bayern, and a victory cuts the gap to five points.

Bayern warmed up for the table-topping clash with a vital 2-1 Champions League playoff away win over Celtic.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen enjoyed a free week after qualifying inside the top eight during the league phase of the competition.

The hosts are expected to restore Florian Wirtz and Alejandro Grimaldo to the starting XI after a goalless draw at Wolfsburg.

Martin Terrier and Jeanuel Belocian are both long-term absentees, while Roma loanee Mario Hermoso remains a doubt through illness.

As for the visitors, Bayern are sweating on the availability of former Fulham star Joao Palhinha due to a similar sickness complaint.

Alphonso Davies remains in the treatment room with a hamstring injury, with goalkeeper Daniel Peretz also a doubt.

“He was already a top striker back then but he has improved a lot. And I get to see, first-hand, the reasons why he has improved.

“If you combine that with his talent and his skill, it’s not a surprise he is doing so well!”
