According to the application, the gym owners want to serve alcohol in their café during the evenings as part of their social activities.
They have sought permission for alcohol to be sold and consumed on the premises daily from 12pm until 10pm only.
This differs to the gym’s usual operating hours, with members able to use the fitness facilities from 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends.
A spokesman for the gym said: “We are a fitness club, providing classes and gym facilities with a café and would like to sell alcohol in the evening as we are a social.”
The fitness club, which relocated from a site in Nevill Road after RAAC concrete was found in the building, only opened at the new venue last month.
The gym’s café currently serves hot and cold food and drink, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.
