British tourists heading to Greece are being issued with a fresh warning by the Foreign Office.

Travellers attending the UEFA Europa Conference League match between Panathinaikos and Chelsea tomorrow (October 24) are warned to be wary of potential disruptions and safety concerns.

In a statement, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) urged fans and tourists heading to Athens to adhere closely to their guidance.

They said it is important to plan ahead.

“Ensure you arrive at the stadium well in advance of the match kick-off,” the office advised, highlighting the likelihood of increased crowds and potential transport disruptions.

The FCDO also reminded travellers to comply with local authorities’ instructions and to exercise heightened vigilance regarding personal belongings.

“Thefts of passports, wallets, and handbags are common on the metro and in crowded tourist areas, particularly in central Athens,” the guidance warned.

Travellers are encouraged to carry valuables in different bags and keep copies of their important documents in secure locations. 

In addition to personal safety tips, the FCDO advised those driving in Greece to keep valuables out of sight and to always park in well-lit or secure areas to deter car crime.

Holidaymakers are urged to consult the FCDO’s latest travel advice before their departure, which includes important information on safety, security, health, and entry requirements. 

This advisory comes as the FCDO recently updated travel guidance for destinations including Egypt and several Caribbean locales amidst ongoing concerns about crime in tourist areas.
