A savvy traveller has won approval with their ingenious airport hack to keep hydrated without splashing the cash on expensive terminal beverages.

Diving into a Reddit discussion, ‘What hacks did you find out to improve your flight/airport experience?’ one globetrotter unfolded a clever tip that could see your wallet heave a sigh of relief in transit lounges.

They said: “You can’t bring a full water bottle through airport security, but you can bring an empty one. Most airports have water bottle fillers installed at drinking fountains after security. Beats paying six dollars for bottled water.”

A fellow jet-setter chimed in: remove your bottle’s lid so security can quickly verify it’s empty, making it speedier. Another added: “You can bring ice in a bottle though as long as it’s not melted. I like to do that and then fill it up inside the airport. I love ice water.”

An additional contributor had this to say: “Never go to the first water filler you see go to the next one a bit further away. Usually the closest one. Is really slow as the filter is clogged and comes out at a trickle.”

Apart from hydration tips, another seasoned flyer recommended packing compression socks for lengthy journeys, saying: “For personal comfort, I find compression socks to really help during longer flights/trips.
