Freddie Flintoff’s son Rocky, aged just 16, has made a stunning century for England Lions against a Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane.
The young Flintoff, who signed his first professional contract with Lancashire in June, hit nine fours and six sixes in a 127-ball 108 while at number nine in the batting order, turning the four-day match in favour of the Lions.
His father, on his first tour as Lions coach, proudly watched as his son galvanised the Lions from 161 for seven to 319 all out, securing a first-innings lead of 105 on the second day.
The Cricket Australia XI managed to reach 33 for one at close, trailing by 72 runs with nine wickets left.
In the hosts’ first innings, Pat Brown claimed a remarkable hat-trick for the Lions, before going on to take to five for 21 as they recovered from 55 for four to reach 214 all out.
The Lions’ comeback was also aided by opener Alex Davies’ 76 and Freddie McCann’s 51, but it was the young Flintoff, who turned 16 last April, who stole the show.
He was a late call-up for the Lions tour after scoring a century for Lancashire’s second XI in April before making his first-class debut in July.
