Booking a plane ticket can be both thrilling and nerve-wracking.
The process of planning a holiday is an exhilarating one, and there are numerous hacks available to secure the best deals. Recently, a former airline worker shared her invaluable advice for ensuring a hassle-free journey in a TikTok post.
Megan Hommer outlined several things you should never do when booking a flight. Firstly, she advised against booking flights anywhere other than the airline’s official website or app, in case “something goes wrong”.
If you don’t book directly with the airline, their customer service won’t be able to assist you. Secondly, she warned against booking the shortest layover.
She explained: “If you have the choice between a 45-minute layover and a two-hour layover, you should pick the two-hour one.”
This is due to potential flight delays of around 10-15 minutes which could cause you to miss your connecting flight.
If your flight is cancelled, she recommends “calling customer service immediately” as they will attend to you faster than if you queue to speak with someone at the airport.
Lastly, she suggests travelling with minimal luggage “if it’s not absolutely necessary”, especially if you have a connecting flight.
She shared: “The best way to lose your suitcase is not having it with you all the time, and I prefer to avoid that headache. Traveling light is easy if you learn how to do it.”
The video has gained significant traction online, garnering 39,600 likes. Viewers offered various suggestions, including the use of suitcase trackers to aid in recovery if lost.
One commenter expressed: “I agree with every single point but I cannot pack light.” Another emphasized the importance of direct bookings, adding: “Heavy on booking directly – hotels too.”
A third viewer concurred, saying: “Yes ma’am tell everyone about point number 1.”
