Snacks and drinks on a plane are one of life’s greatest pleasures, but there is one drink that experts say should never be ordered on a flight.
While it’s fine to order a tipple in a can or bottle such as wine or beer, one former flight attendant has shared the drink she tends to avoid while on a flight.
TikTok influencer Kat Kamalani says she worked for six years “with one of the biggest airlines that you could possibly imagine” and claims she would never order a coffee or a tea while on a flight.
She claims the water tanks on planes are “disgusting”, and that flight attendants “rarely, rarely” drink tea or coffee while on shift.
In addition to this, the ex-flight attendant also claims coffee machines are “rarely cleaned unless they are broken”, and that the drinks are made “by the lavatories.”
A 2019 study about the water in airlines ranked 11 major and 12 American regional airlines according to their quality of water and found that they all used the same water source as the bathroom.
“Sometimes, on flights, we would run out of bottled water,” former flight attendant Sue Fogwell told Travel & Leisure.
“If you see a pitcher of water on the beverage cart in economy class, skip it — it’s from the water tank. Ask for a can of seltzer water.”
However, if you see the water being poured from a bottle, it’s perfectly fine to drink it – and you should drink as much as you can.
