Nestled between the glitzy French Riviera towns of Nice and Cannes, is a village hidden away from the world.
And despite being in one of Europe’s tourist hotspots, a visit to Eze feels like stepping back in time.
The village is perched high on a hill overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean and, with its cobbled streets, medieval ruins and breathtaking views, has lashings of old-world charm.
Meandering through the narrow, winding alleys feels like exploring a living postcard, with every turn revealing quaint stone buildings adorned with colourful flowers.
It’s no surprise that visitors have labelled it as one of the prettiest places they’ve ever been.
The village’s crowning jewel is the exotic Jardin Exotique, a lush botanical garden perched atop the hill. From here you can take in panoramic views of the Côte d’Azur, stretching from the azure waters of the Mediterranean to the green hills beyond.
For history buffs, the medieval castle ruins at the summit of Eze are a must-see. Although the fortress itself is long gone, the remnants offer a glimpse into the village’s storied past.
Meanwhile, Eze’s boutique shops and artisanal stores are perfect for picking up unique souvenirs, from handmade jewellery to Provençal lavender products.
No visit to Eze would be complete without a stop at one of its charming cafés or fine dining restaurants. Relish a glass of local wine or indulge in fresh, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine while soaking up the serene surroundings.
Getting to Eze from London is surprisingly straightforward. Start by flying from one of London’s major airport Heathrow, Gatwick, or Luton – to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. The flight takes around two hours, and with numerous daily connections, it’s easy to find a convenient departure time.
From Nice, Eze is just a short 20-minute drive along the coastal Moyenne Corniche, one of the most scenic routes in the region. Alternatively, take a train from Nice to Eze-sur-Mer, which takes about 15 minutes, followed by a short bus ride or a hike up to the village.
