The Andean sleeper train takes 10 hours to travel through some of Peru’s most incredible landscapes.
South America’s natural wonders are best seen from this luxury train which is the first of its kind in Peru.
Travellers can book a private cabin or the open-air observation car as the train makes its way from Lake Titicaca to the famous floating island of Uros. You can even taste some traditional Peruvian cuisine while you’re on board which uses Andean ingredients.
Cabins feature modern decor – rooms are light and cream colours are brightened up with colourful accents.
Peru has three long distance trains which were built as tourist trains but the Andean Explorer travels the longest distance of them all – running between Cusco, Lake Titicaca and Arequipa.
One of the other trains only runs from Puno to Cusco but the third train is the most adventurous with a route from Lima to Huancayo which passes through the second highest railway station in the world.
The Andean Explorer is operated by Belmond, known for its luxury travel options and high quality service. Only running once per week in either direction, the Andean Explorer is a unique and a fleeting opportunity for travellers wishing to take a trip on this exciting journey.
There are a range of journeys available to travellers depending on how many nights you wish to spend aboard the train. Once a year, there is also a New Years Eve train service which allows a special opportunity for travellers to ring in the New Year in style.
Impressively, there is also a spa on board where guests can add a relaxing treatment to their trip to make the most of the luxuries available and of their travel time.
If you’re hoping to take a trip on this train, it’s worth exploring the city of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the city, you can take a day trip to the deepest canyon in the world, climb one of the famous 6,000 metre volcanoes nearby or people watch on the plaza.
