The England Cricket Team were in full ‘Bazball’ mode as they took the field on the first day of play in the second Test against West Indies at the Trent Bridge Stadium in Nottigham on Thursday (July 18) as their batting gave the crowd a show to remember.
After West Indies skipper Kraigg Braithwate won the toss and chose to bowl first; the visitors made a dream start as Zak Crawley departed for a duck in the first over with Alzarri Joseph. However, the early dismissal did not hamper the hosts put on a show for the ages as they reached the 50-run mark in just 26 balls (4.2 overs).
The Ben Stokes-led team set a massive world record as this was the fastest fifty in 147-year-old Test cricket. The hosts broke their own record, which was set 30 years ago in a match against South Africa at the Oval in 1994, when they scored 50 runs in 4.3 overs.
Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope were the players responsible for the carnage. Duckett was the star of the show with a knock of 71 in 59 balls before being dismissed by Joseph.

They broke their own record (50) against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford, Manchester, in 2022. The Stokes-led outfit is also third on the elite list, having made 48 runs against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi. India also made 48 runs in five overs against the West Indies in 2023.
