This past July, Ellen signaled she was leaving the entertainment business. While performing a standup comedy show in in Santa Rosa, Calif., a fan asked if they could look forward to seeing her on Broadway or the big screen in the near future, and Ellen set the record straight.
“Um, no,” she said, according to SFGATE. “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, dubbed the “final comedy special of her historic career,” premiered on Netflix in September.
“I got kicked out of show business. Yeah, ’cause I’m mean,” the Finding Dory star joked on the special. “You can’t be mean and be in show business. No, they’ll kick you out. No mean people in show business.”
Ellen said she “loved” her show, adding, “It was a family to me.”
“I have a choice of people remembering me as someone who is mean, or someone who is beloved,” she said. “I choose that.”
