Lights, camera, paparazzi! Classic-with-a-twist movie star smoldered out onto the catwalk of Dolce & Gabbana this season, in a collection entitled “Paparazzi.”
Riffing on director Federico Fellini’s 1960 masterpiece, “La Dolce Vita“, where the celebrity snapper had the surname Paparazzi, the collection evoked the heroic days of Italian cinema, even as it subtly undermined its codes.
Featuring a wardrobe that spanned early morning wintery strolls, weekend jaunts, stylish soirées and chic premieres.
Weather wise, Dolce & Gabbana could not have been better this season, as they showed acres of fur – all faux – in this fall-winter 2025 collection on a freezing weekend in Milan. A good score of the cast appearing in faux-mink gilets; faux-fox coats or mock beaver cabans.
All making their entrance through two phalanxes of over 50 models in classic black suits, wielding flashing cameras, like busy paparazzi at a red carpet event. Dolce & Gabbana’s runway was red too.
At times, it felt a little too like a rerun of classics by Domenico and Stefano, when suddenly the duo would blast you with some uproariously natty suits. One black velvet matinee idol three-piece suit, finished with piping and cut with wide Wall Street boardroom lapels was magnificent. Worn by a handsome black model who looked enormously proud. While a cashmere Donegal tweed style cashmere suit in a stony gray soil hew was cut with flares and topped by a shawl collar double-breasted jacket merited its own standing applause.
While their double lapel tuxedos, matinee idol silk barathea pants worn with eight-inch-wide cummerbunds and lightly wrap-around Nehru jackets finished by triple silver strass buttons all reeked chic.
As ever, the design duo’s front row was a shiny one, including James McAvoy, Josh Heuston, Achille Lauro, Alberto Guerra, Rocco Ritchie, Edoardo Bove, Levi Dylan and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. A gaggle of Koreans – Jung Hae-in, Steve Sanghyun-Noh and Nam Yoon-su. Plus, Lucien Laviscount, who plays the lover of Emily in “Emily in Paris,” looking very natter in a dandy chalk stripe pajama suit.
Sitting close by was the hit TV series’ producer, Darren Star, on a research trip for the show’s next season, which will be shot in Rome. Star had also rocked up in Florence this past week, attending Brunello Cucinelli’s dinner in Palazzo Corsini.
“Darren’s checking up on me here, just to make sure I am looking good,” joked Laviscount.
