A cyclist has died following a road collision and a woman has been arrested, police have said.
The man in his 70s, who was named by his running and cycling clubs as Arthur Whiston, was involved in a fatal crash in Argents Lane near West Bergholt at about 12:20 BST on Friday.
Essex Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene and his family was being supported.
A 69-year-old woman from Colchester has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
She has been released under investigation while police carry out further inquiries.
In a social media post, Colchester Cycling Campaign paid tribute to Mr Whiston.
It said: “All of our thoughts are with Arthur’s family, friends and the running community in which he was such an active participant.”
Mr Whiston’s running club said: “It’s with complete devastation that we are finding out that one of the members of Running Colchester has sadly passed away.
“Arthur Whiston, you will be missed by so many.”
A minute’s applause was also held for Mr Whiston at a junior Parkrun in Colchester, where he would often marshal races.
Essex Police has appealed for witnesses and any video or dashcam footage that could help in the investigation.
