British tennis star Cameron Norrie admits to demons after reaching first ATP final in 21 months

Britain’s Cameron Norrie has stormed into his first ATP Tour final since February 2023, defeating France’s Corentin Moutet 6-2 7-6(5) at the Moselle Open in Metz.

The British number two’s impressive victory guarantees his return to the world’s top 50, marking a triumphant end to what he has described as a “difficult year”.

The 29-year-old left-hander showed remarkable determination in the semi-final clash, securing his place in what will be the 15th ATP Tour final of his career.

Norrie made a perfect start against the flamboyant Moutet, breaking serve immediately and seizing control of the match.

The Briton looked to be cruising when he secured a third break at the start of the second set.

However, Moutet mounted a spirited comeback, claiming four games in succession before Norrie steadied himself to force a tie-break.

His world ranking had slipped to 57th, making this late-season revival particularly significant.

“It’s been a difficult year for me and I never really was able to gain any momentum, so it’s nice to finish the last week of the year playing for a final,” said Norrie, who let out a roar of delight upon securing victory.

The British star showed admirable sportsmanship, praising his opponent: “He’s honestly one of my favourite players to watch, the way he moves is incredible and his hands are just another level.”

Despite facing a challenging home crowd, Norrie remained gracious, thanking the fans for “making it a great atmosphere.”

Norrie will face either American Alex Michelsen or France’s Benjamin Bonzi in Saturday’s final, scheduled for 3:30pm.
