A British holidaymaker, aged 56, is battling for his life after a failed attempt to jump into a swimming pool from a balcony. The tourist reportedly slipped during the daring leap and plummeted onto the pavement of his villa in Pegeia, Cyprus.
He was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital in a grave condition, according to local reports. Cypriot media outlets have reported that due to the severity of his injuries, he was moved to the intensive care unit. It’s understood that the man was vacationing with friends at the time of the tragic incident.
This comes just days after a British teenager was hospitalised following a near-drowning experience at a water park in Mallorca. Spanish media reported that the incident took place at the Hidropark water park in Alcudia, with Civil Guard motorcyclists forming the convoy.
Emergency services 061 revealed that they received a call about a serious drowning at the water park around 4pm on September 16. An ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene where medics found the patient, a 15-year-old boy, in a critical state, reports the Mirror.
After stabilising him, the medical team transported him to Son Espases Hospital.
The severity of a British teenager’s condition prompted an extraordinary response by the Civil Guard, which launched a “green alert”, clearing the roads to fast-track the ambulance through traffic, as reported by local media outlet Cronica Balear. The 15 year old was rendered unconscious in a dramatic pool slide accident.
Cronica Balear detailed the harrowing incident, stating: “The minor has been knocked unconscious when he went down one of the slides and hit his head.”
They further reported: “The boy, as a result of the crash, has been knocked unconscious, and once he has reached the pool, he has gone to the bottom of it.”
