Brian May was spotted watching England play cricket at The Kia Oval with his wife Anita Dobson, looking in high spirits despite his recent health scare.
The legendary Queen guitarist, 77, sparked concern when he revealed he had a “minor stroke” that led to the loss of control in his left arm. Nevertheless, the musician looked cheerful as he enjoyed day two of the Third Rothesay Men’s Test match between England and Sri Lanka on Saturday (September 7).
The outing comes just days after the rock icon informed his followers about the “scary” stroke, revealing he has been told by doctors to take it easy.
He said: “I think good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days and I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden – out of the blue – I didn’t have any control over this arm so was a little scary.”
The We Will Rock You hitmaker praised Frimley Hospital for providing excellent care, adding: “I have to say I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital where I went blue lights flashing… the lot. Very exciting!”
He wrapped up with an update on his recovery, saying: “So, good news is I’m okay. Just doing what I’m told which is basically nothing.
“I’m grounded. I’m not allowed to go out well I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high, not allowed to have planes flying over, which will stress me. But I’m good.”
Fans were first alerted to Sir Brian’s health ordeal when he was forced to miss his wife’s performance at BBC Proms. He was due to appear at the Royal Albert Hall last week to see former EastEnders star Anita take to the stage as her Doctor Who character Mrs Flood.
However, the Bohemian Rhapsody singer revealed he missed it due to a “small health hiccup”. Sir Brian’s recent health scare is his second in four years after he suffered what was nearly a fatal heart attack due to three clogged arteries in 2020.
At the time, speaking on Instagram, the dad-of-three conveyed his surprise as he had always considered himself fairly healthy. He divulged: “Everyone says, ‘You’ve got great blood pressure, great heart rate’, I keep fit on my bike, good diet, not too much fat.”
He then went on to share a critical piece of advice for others, especially those reaching their later years: “We’ve all got to really look at ourselves as we get to the autumn years […] what seems to be a healthy heart may not be,” the songwriter said.
