When is Great Britain vs Slovakia at the Billie Jean King Cup?

Great Britain will play their Billie Jean King Cup semi-final against 2002 champions Slovakia on Tuesday 19 November.

The tie will begin at 11:00 GMT and will follow a best of three match format.

Great Britain vs Slovakia head-to-head

Great Britain will be hoping to get their first win over Slovakia, having lost their two previous meetings.

In 2006 the two nations faced off in the Europe / Africa Play-Off, with Magdalena Rybarikova and Daniela Hantuchova clinching victories over Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong.

Fast-forward to 2020 and the Slovakian’s also picked up a 3-1 home win in a qualifying tie. Heather Watson picked up the Brits only win over the weekend as Anna Karolina Schmiedlova and Viktoria Hruncakova carried them to victory. This was the first Billie Jean King Cup tie that Emma Raducanu was nominated for.

GB have also played the formerly known Czechoslovakia five times in the history of the competition – holding a 3-2 winning record.

This is the second time in three years that Great Britain have made the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals and they’ve done so without losing a set against Germany and Canada.

Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu have been in phenomenal form so far Great Britain. Boulter is adding to her best season to date, in which she’s won two titles and reached a career-high ranking (No.23) and has led the team by example so far. The British No.1 has so far defeated Laura Siegemund and former US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez.

Raducanu is playing her first event for two months but has bought her best tennis to Malaga so far. Her victories over Jule Niemeier and Rebecca Marino have been nothing short of impressive and the 2021 US Open champion is relishing that No.2 spot in the team.

Harriet Dart, Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls are yet to make an appearance – but all three players have had great seasons themselves. Watson has been a consistent performer in both singles and doubles this year, Nicholls is British doubles No.1 for the first time and broke into the top 50 and Dart has become a main stay in the singles top 100.

Slovakia’s performances have been one of the biggest talking points from the Finals in Malaga so far. The No.10 ranked team opened with a 2-1 win over the most successful team in the tournament’s history, USA, and followed that up by beating seven-time champions Australia.

Rebecca Sramkova has been on fire in the opening two rounds – picking up straight sets victories over Miami Open champion and world No.11 Danielle Collins as well as former Wimbledon and US Open quarter-finalist, Ajla Tomljanovic.

Viktoria Hruncakova boasts an impressive Billie Jean King Cup record and has added two more wins (one singles, and one doubles) so far this week. She’s 13-3 in singles matches for her country and will pose a serious threat for the Brits.

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova has had a good season so far – reaching two WTA semi-finals in Austin and Budapest, as well as finishing fourth at the Paris Olympics. 17-year-old Renata Jamrichova is a rising star in Slovakia and has already played in three ties.

Meanwhile, Tereza Mihalikova will be well-known to the Brits as Nicholls’ usual doubles partner – with the two having breakout years in 2024.
