The British Golf Industry Association (BGIA), the leading trade body representing UK manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of golf products and services, has made a generous charitable donation to The Big Golf Race – Prostate Cancer UK’s biggest fundraising challenge aimed at saving men’s lives.
Following on from lending its support to the worthy cause earlier this year, the BGIA members, which includes top equipment brands like TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist and PING, presented a cheque of £1,000 to The Big Golf Race at the BGIA golf day, which was held at Frilford Heath, near Oxford.
“We wanted to show our support to what is such an important cause and reiterate the key message for men to go and get tested,” said Chairman Martin Wild. “Looking around the room after the golf day, it was a message for a large proportion of attendees because as we know, 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in the UK, so anything we can do to raise awareness is fantastic and I’m glad that the BGIA and its board members are in full support.”
Since its inception in 2020, more than 10,000 golfers have helped raise £3.4m to fund lifesaving research to radically improve the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated.
“We’d like to thank the BGIA and its members for such a generous and unexpected donation that will benefit men across the country,” said Head of Events & Community Fundraising Seren Evans. “It’s really special to see the golf community doing so much good work for a charity like ours. And attending the BGIA golf day and presenting the rationale behind The Big Golf Race, it was heartwarming to receive comments from those with their own touching stories and desire to see more men get tested and treated successfully,” she added.
Golfers around the UK can raise money to help fund research to find better tests to save men’s lives by taking on the Marathon, which consists of four rounds and 26 miles of walking in a day/Half Marathon, two rounds of golf in a day and 13 miles of walking/Ultra Marathon, which consists of 100 rounds in a day and 35 miles of walking.
Golfers and organisations wishing to take on The Big Golf Race can contact Prostate Cancer UK’s golf team on 020 3310 7289 or at thebiggolfrace@prostatecanceruk.org or sign up at prostatecanceruk.org/TheBigGolfRace.
