Barclays has reiterated its dedication to the UK market. Demonstrating that commitment, Sasha Wiggins, CEO of Barclays Private Bank and Wealth Management (PBWM) has appointed senior private banking and wealth management expert, Mo Syed, to lead Private Bank and Wealth Management in the UK and Crown Dependencies, subject to regulatory approval. Mo will become a direct report of Sasha and will be given a wide remit to grow the business.
In this new role, Mo will be responsible for leading the UK Private Bank, Wealth Management, Digital Investing and Crown Dependencies. Bringing together these businesses under a single leader will enable a full spectrum of services to be provided to clients in the UK – for those investing for the very first time, through to clients requiring comprehensive private banking and investment services.
Mo, a well-known figure in the global market, brings deep expertise across the sphere of investment banking, wealth management and fund management. His previous role was CEO Asset Management, Coutts and NatWest and prior to this was Interim CEO at Coutts. In his earlier career he held senior roles at Sanwa International PLC and Sanwa Financial Products (now Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Group) and MaxCap Partners (UK Multi-Family Office).
Sasha Wiggins, CEO of Private Bank and Wealth Management said “I am delighted that Mo will be joining Barclays. His extensive experience will play a vital role in growing our business in the UK and Crown Dependencies. His appointment demonstrates our focus on the UK market, and I look forward to working with him to deliver on the commitments in our three-year strategy.”
On Mo’s arrival in February 2025, Barclays Private Bank and Wealth Management business will be led in two parts.
• Mo Syed will lead the UK business, supporting clients who are starting out on their investment journey, right through to serving ultra-high net worth and Family Office clients.
