Oh no! What a rotten way for this to likely end.
Knight smashes ball one through nackward point for four, but it’s raining again and teh Australians are keen to make sure the umpires know it. They do, and they take the players off.
Knight is fairly disgusted and throws her bat in frustration. England need 18 from five balls and trail on DLS by six runs.
Garth gets through the first half of the over without allowing a boundary. However, Knight now comes down the wicket and top edges to fine leg for four.
Just one more run is added, then the wicket. Only 10 runs from the over and England need 22 to win.
Sciver-Brunt plays on last ball of penultimate over.
The impressive half-century from Wyatt-Hodge is a big reason why England are still in this game – but this is how it ended.

Good fielding in th deep from Wareham helps limit England, until Knight pulls for six on the final ball! Perry can only tip it over and a terrific over from McGrath ends up going for 12.
Australia are behind on their over rate, which is another small mercy for England. It’s likely there will only be three fielders outside the circle in the last over
Knight again finds a way to hit the ball over mid-off for four, then repeats the trick two deliveries later.
Sciver-Brunt joins the party on the last ball, pulling towards cow corner and out of reach of the fielders. England needed that over – 17 runs from it.
Every day of the multi-format series will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and discovery+. That includes this game, the final T20I and the concluding Test match – the first day-night Test match ever scheduled at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Knight advances and hits Garth over mid-off for four, but it’s the only boundary of the over. Australia almost pick up a wicket too, but Voll cannot thrown the stumps down from point as England attempt a risky single. Needs must.
England require 61 runs from the last four overs.

Sciver-Brunt is able to get one sweep away to the boundary, before Knight plays a lovely drive through the covers. Thirteen runs from the over, England need more like it.
The hundred is up for England, but they’re 16 runs off the DLS par score. Australia applying all the pressure.
Two wickets, one run. A fantastic over for the Australians.
Two wickests in three balls for Schutt! She stays straight, Dunkley backs off, misses attampting a cut and is bowled. England are in real trouble once again.
Wyatt-Hodge tries to work the ball over mid-off but cannot and Australia have a big breakthrough! Schutt dissmisses Wyatt-Hodge again.
Six singles keep England two runs ahead of the DLS par score.
Wyatt-Hodge chips one back at the bowler McGrath, who cannot react quick enough and lets the ball through! A lifeline for Wyatt-Hodge and it brings up a half-century.
Another tight Wareham over, until Wyatt-Hodge walks across the stumps and plonks a sweep to square leg for a bobbling four.
Final ball of the over, Wyatt-Hodge spears a drive to point. Fantastic batting, and the partnership is now 46 runs off 31 balls.
More lightening has Dunkley looking quizickly at the umpires, but they’re unmoved.
England stay ahead of the DLS par score and four off the final ball – after Dunkley backs away and helps the ball down to third – means they’re fouro ahead.
Dunkley sweeps for four first ball after the restart. Second ball she sends the ball to short fine leg off the back of the bat, but McGrath drops it! A massive let-off for Dunkley and England.
Twelve runs from the rain-interrupted over.
Two balls remaining in the King over. England are two runs ahead on DLS and need 117 more runs froom 68 balls.
That is assuming no more rain, of course, and 11:05 GMT. The umpires beleive conditions have improved enough and no overs have been lost yet.

“She would have dissappointed with her form leading into this game,” Tash Farrant says on TNT Sports. “Megan Schutt has the wood over Danni Wyatt-Hodge but she played her really nicely today.
“Good start. She used the width that the Australian bowlers gave to her and she just has that presence at the crease today, anything loose she’s really taking control and made sure it goes to the boundary.”
Adds Ebony Rainford-Brent: “They didn’t use their plans effectively. More importantly I like how Danni Wyatt-Hodge held her ground. Sometime we’ve seen her in the past, when that ball gets a little bit striaghter she can almost go across it and I’ve seen her just chip it up to mid-on and mid-off. But actually today she was really definite against Schutt.”
The rain is getting heavier, but DLS remains so tight. England go ahead first ball of the over, it’s level after the second, almost a calamitous run out off the third – a dot – then Dunkley finds a gap at cow corner with a powerful stroke. That takes England into the lead 69 for one, and off they come.
The rian has picked up and there’s moer thunder and lightning about too.
Dunkley brilliantly hits Perry back over mid-off for four first ball. It’s all about the DLS par score right now, with rain coming down.
Two singles later, Dunkley clears the front leg and mashes a monster six striaght over the bowler’s head! Spectacular. But two dots to end the over mean it’s tied on DLS.
An excellent first non-powerplay over for Australia. England tried to sweep, but could not get Georgia Wareham away.

“A wicket would be nice either way, whether the rain comes or it doesn’t,” says the mic’d up Harris in the field. A few balls later she gets her wish.
Disaster for England! Right after carving a wide delivery square on the off side for four, Bouchier tries something fancy, gets squared up by the delivery and spoons the ball straight up in the air. That wicket means England are level with the DLS par score.
Wyatt-Hodge and Bouchier scamper towards the boundary after a couple of blasts of thunder, but the Australians and umpires are going nowhere. Wyatt-Hodge and Bouchier have to come back and Sutherland will bowl the sixth over.
There’s a run-out shout off Perry’s first ball as the bowler deflects a straight shot onto the stumps, but Wyatt-Hodge got the bat back in time.
A edged four doubles Bouchier’s score and the completion of the over makes this an official match.
More runs for Wyatt-Hodge, who chips a boundary down the ground and tickles one to fine leg.
Alyssa Healy is interviewed on the TV broadcast mid-over and insists her foot will need to be “cut off” to stop her playing in the Test match later this series. Said foot is currently in a boot.
Australia have just named their squad, with Healy in and captain but not taking the gloves.
Australia turn to spin and Alana King, the series’ leading wicket-taker, with the possibility of rain around and DLS in play.
An unconvincing, premediated sweep brings Wyatt-Hodge four and a decivisive cut the same.
Kim Garth’s first ball is wide and popped through the covers for four by an advancing Wyatt-Hodge.
Four balls later, Wyatt-Hodge stands and delivers through a similar area for the same result. A better over for England, who are two runs ahead of the DLS par score.
Schutt finds the edge of Bouchier’s bat first ball, but it’s too thick to be catchable and England get two runs. They add two more before the over is out.
Wyatt-Hodge and Bouchier are out to open the batting. Megan Schutt has the ball in her hands.

Ebony Rainford-Brent has been giving her verdict in the TNT Sports studio.
“I felt that they [England] really came out with intenet,” she said. Freya Kemp started beautifully with the ball that first over… you could feel the intensitiy.
“Then around that 12-over mark when Australia started putting the pressure back on – dropped catch of Sutherland first of all which didn’t so much her impact, but after that Mcgrath’s partnership with Grace Harris, they score 70-odd and it kind of reminded me of that ODI where England had Australia 59 for four and then let them back in the game and that’s kind of what we’ve seen here.
“I still think it’s chasable, but they’ve made themselves harder work.”
Australia’s abtting line-up is dangerous enough even before they get a helping hand.

Harris stands in front of the stumps, challenging Bell to dare to bowl on the legs or thread the needle.
A lofted drive to mid-off brings up one four, a premeditated paddle to fine leg another, with the fielder in the circle. McGrath and Harris then run two off the final ball to post a daunting total, 185. Their partnership of 71 from 35 balls was ruthless.
Australia are finishing strongly, England not so much.
McGrath begins the over with back-to-back-to-back fours, each to a different part of the ground, then is dropped by Dean, running in from the mid-off boundary. One last four, cut through point, adds insult to injury for the bowler.
This feels a while ago now for England, as McGrath and Harris tee off.
The spin can’t contain Australia now.
Harris comes down the crease and launches Glenn back over her head for head, then stays back and smashes the next ball over cow corner for six. Australia’s 150 comes up in style.
Glenn bowls a dot to end the over, but it’s one Australia won.
The first of two wickets in an excellent over for England.

McGrath walks across her stumps and carves one delivery through the leg side, but otherwise just one more run of a good Ecclestone over and almost a wicket. A stumping shout goes to the TV umpire, but McGrath just got a toe behind the line in time.

Brilliant from Grace Harris, who launches a half-volley over cow corner for six. The next ball strikes the pad, England go up and review when the umpire says not out. Pitching in-line, hitting in-line, but the ball is umpire’s call on the stumps, so Harris survives.
Eight runs and now wicket from the Kemp over. An over somewhat let down by a wild wide down the leg side which runs to the boundary.
Sutherland attempts to drag the first ball of Kemp’s over down to the square-leg boundary, but gets too much height, not enough distance, and Sophia Dunkley takes the catch.
“I love it when a plan comes together.”

McGrath hits two fours through the leg side to keep the score ticking over.
England return to seam bowling and Sutherland responds with aggression – plus the first six of the game. A half-tracker is picked up a dispatched over square leg, one ball after a nice stroke down the ground for four.
Bell falls to her knees after chasing the ball over the boundary and needs medical attention.
After a delay, Bell is able to walk off. Concern about her well-being for England, as well as how to divide the overs if Bell is not okay.
England’s highlight so far.

England almost have another wicket, but not quite. Sutherland hits Glenn down the ground, doesn’t get enough of the shot and Kemp arrives on the scene at mid-on, but can’t tale the catch.

Two wickets fall in Engalnd’s best oover of the game so far.
Dean gets another! Lithcfield goes down on one knee but the paddle scoop is not on. The bat misses the ball and it goes on to hit middle stump.
Perry sends a leading edge up into the evening sky and Bouchier holds a catch inside the circle! That will bring about drinks, with England fighting back well.

Litchfield uses her feet really well of the last ball of an otherwise tight over, creating space to drive up and over the covers for four. England’s spinners want to apply a squeeze; boundaries are Australia’s remedy.
Five runs and a massive wicket from the over.
Alex Hartley, on commentary on TNT Sports, is very impressed with that wicket, declaring “I think that was a plan.
“When was the last time Ecclestone bowled a rank ball down the leg side? Probably when she was 16. That’s a plan, for me.”
As Mooney comes down the wicket, Sophie Ecclestone darts a full delivery down the leg side, beats the batter and Amy Jones completes a smart stumping. It’s a wide, but England will definitely exhange that for the big wicket of Mooney.
Eights runs off the first post-powerplay over, half of them from Litchfield coming down teh track and carving the ball through point. Nat Sciver-Brunt bowled wide and must have throught for a second a syumping was on, but Litchfield’s hands were too quick.
You can watch and live stream every ball of the India v England T20I and ODI series in the UK on TNT Sports and discovery+, as Brendon McCullum begins his white-ball reign with a challenging tour against the T20 world champions.
Advantage Australia at the end of the powerplay. They have 54 runs, with Phoebe Litchfield adding the final four via a brilliant reverse sweep which splits the field.
A costly over, with Voll getting off the mark with a powerful slash through cow corner, but then a wicket out of nowhere ends her innings and gives England something to smile about.
A much-needed breakthrough for England! Australia’s openers look to turn a two into a three when it’s really not on and an excellent thrown from Maia Bouchier on the boundary cuts Voll down.
Spin arrives in the form of Charlie Dean, Mooney keeps hitting boundaries. Voll is still get to get off the mark.
And here is Alex Hartley disucussing the controversy.

More desructive Mooney batting, more spectating for Georgia Voll. Mooney adds two more boundaries with a punch over the covers and a classy flick through square leg.
Fourteen runs off the Lauren Bell over, 13 from the bat of Mooney. Back-to-back well-hit fours, the first off a no-ball full toss dispatched over the leg side and the second a glorious strike doown the ground on the foollowing free hit, do the real damage.
The England team’s reltionship with Alex Hartley, and comments the former Englannd player made about the current team’s fitness, have dominated the build-up to this game. TNT Sports expert Ebondy Rainford-Brent weighs in.
Freya Kemp opens the bowling and it’s a tight enough, uneventful over. The fifth delivery – a good length with late away movement which beats the bat of Beth Mooney – is the highhlight, before nice fielding from Danni Wyatt-Hodge keeps the Aussies to just one run off the final ball.
Now England cannot win the Ashes, the inquest has already started.
“I think mindset-wise, when you listen to the Australians they are ruthless, they are critical,” Ebony Rainford-Brent said, speaking on TNT Sports. “[For England] everyone’s been a bit tentative.
“For England it is a collective responsibility. Every good team has a leader and for England it doesn’t feel like anyone is consistently leading on the field.”
Tash Farrant added: “For England, all you’re doing now is playing for pride. There’s still eight points up for grabs so they can try and draw the series level but it’s obviously a really awful time for England.”
Heather Knight calls right and inserts Australia. Both teams are unchanged.
The sun is not really shining in Canberra, but you are very welcome to live coverage of the second T20 between Australia and England in the Women’s Ashes.
Australia have already retained the Ashes, possessing an insurmountable 8-0 lead. Victory today, or a tie, would see them win the contest outright at the earliest possible opportunity.
England are playing to avoid that, in theory still able to draw, but also must be playing for pride, after what has so far been a chastening and winless tour. Their lowest points total since the system was introduced in 2013 is four, and matching it must be the minimum aim.
News of the toss is on the way shortly.
