The first edition of the T20 World Cup took place in 2007 in South Africa. India won the inaugural tournament, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in a nail-biting summit clash to secure MS Dhoni’s first trophy in charge of the national team.
The most recent edition of the tournament took place two years ago, in 2022. In the eighth edition, held in Australia, England emerged as winners for the second time, becoming the second team after West Indies to win multiple T20 World Cups.
Entering at the Super 12 stage, they qualified for the semi-finals from Group 1 along with New Zealand, pipping the hosts in the process. They went on to thrash India by 10 wickets in the second semi-final, before defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets in the summit clash.
