Both the Nuggets and Timberwolves dominated their first-round series, coming out on top 4-1 and 4-0, respectively. Minnesota, led by young superstar Anthony Edwards, will now take on the defending champs with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray at the helm.
The Timberwolves took down the Suns in Round 1 for the first 4-0 sweep in Minnesota pro sports history. Edwards shined, averaging 31 points, 8 rebounds and 6.3 assists throughout the four-game stretch. Karl-Anthony Towns notched 28 points and 10 rebounds in Game 4 against the Suns in the 122-116 win.
Denver dominated the Lakers in every game except Game 4, when they suffered a road loss, 119-108. Murray sunk the game-winner with 3.6 seconds left in Game 5, scoring the most crucial basket of his 32-point performance to seal the series with a 108-106 victory. Jokic scored 25 points and pulled in 20 rebounds and nine assists on the night.
The Nuggets beat Minnesota 4-1 last year in the first round on their way to winning the NBA title. They are 33-8 at home and will look to capture the first two games of the series in Denver before heading to Minneapolis later in the week.
