Kentucky’s Mark Pope on recruiting players through transfer portal
Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball coach Mark Pope discusses recruiting players through the transfer portal.
STARKVILLE, Miss — Kentucky basketball is still trying to find good vibes on the road. UK is 0-2 in road games this season. Coach Mark Pope‘s club lost at Clemson, 70-66, last month. An 82-69 setback at the hands of Georgia came earlier this week in Athens, Georgia.
Now, the Wildcats head to Starkville, Mississippi.
A ranked Mississippi State squad — No. 13 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, No. 14 in the Associated Press Top 25 — awaits at Humphrey Coliseum tonight.
Historically, Starkville has been a home away from home for No. 7 Kentucky. The Wildcats (12-3, 1-1 SEC) have won nine consecutive games at Humphrey Coliseum. Their last loss in Starkville was a 69-64 defeat on Jan. 15, 2008.
But the Bulldogs (14-1, 2-0) have been a tough out at home this season: They’re 7-0 at “The Hump” since the 2024-25 campaign began. Only one of those games (Prairie View A&M) was decided by single digits, and MSU stomped South Carolina, 85-50, last week.
To avoid falling under .500 in conference play, Kentucky has to notch its first road victory of the Pope era.
Here’s what you need to know to follow today’s game from home:
UK and Mississippi State are slated to tip off at 8:30 p.m. ET today at Humphrey Coliseum.
